International Criminal Court - Rules of Procedure and Evidence

On 30 June 2000, the Preparatory Commission for the International Criminal Court approved by consensus the Draft Rules of Procedure and Evidence. Their adoption followed months of extensive negotiations during which delegations struggled to supplement the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court while fulfilling the — sometimes somewhat contradictory — objectives of safeguarding the integrity of the Statute and ‘enhancing the effectiveness and acceptance of the Court’.
